Auger Saver Makes Backing Up Easier GRAIN HANDLING Augers (4) 16-1-15 "I came up with this idea three years ago and I haven't had any smashed augers since," says Pete Semescheck, Sturgis, Sask., farmer-inventor of "Auger Saver", a back-up warning system that makes it easier to put grain trucks into position for unloading.
Consists of a lightweight pyramid-shaped 4-legged metal stand, with a spring-loaded "aerial" on top. The unit is positioned next to the auger hopper so that when the back of the truck box hits the aerial, it's in the right spot to unload. The aerial activates a switch that turns on a red light that the driver sees in his rear view mirror.
"Even if you have two or three different trucks with varying wheelbases, you can still use just the one unit since it's the truck box that comes into contact with the aerial," notes Semescheck, who's started selling the Auger Saver. "There's nothing else like it on the market."
