Top sieve boosts older combine's performance COMBINES Accessories 16-3-25 You can boost performance of older model Deere combines by replacing the top sieve with a sieve from more recently manufactured Deere Combines, according to Thomas Lambert, Trempealeau, Wis.
He replaced the top cleaning sieve on his 1983 Deere 6620 sidehill combine with a newer sieve that Deere started putting on its combines in 1985. It's 6 in. longer and has pop-out sections on the rear corners to catch grain that would previously run out on side-hills.
"It works great. I got the idea while reading advertisements for the new combines. The old sieve I had was worn out. The new style costs just $30 to $40 more than the old style.
"It requires pennanent modification. You have to cut slots at a steeper angle on the mounting brackets of the cleaning sieve and the back door behind the sieves must be extended up higher. It took me about 8 hrs. to do the initial installation.
"When installed in the older combine, the new sieve is at an even steeper angle than it is in the newer combines. Helps save grain, produces a cleaner sample, and lets me harvest more acres per hour."
