No Coop Tethered Chickens LIVESTOCK Poultry Veteran FARM SHOW writer C F Marley who turned 91 in April sent us a story the other day with a new twist in backyard chicken raising Corissa Childers lives on a busy street in La Salle Ill When someone gave her a few layer hens she didn’t have a coop to house them So she came up with the idea of putting them on tethers during the day and locking them up in her garage at night She made the footpiece out of a short piece of leather cutting some slits into it to make a strap that wraps around the hens’ legs She then tied the straps to long lengths of nylon cord that allows the chickens to roam the yard eating grass insects and getting lots of exercise
