Land-Clearing Splitter Is First Of Its Kind WOODLOT EQUIPMENT Wood Splitters 8-3-14 "It's designed to be a complete land clearing tool," says Bruce Johnson, Raleigh, N.C., inventor of a new heavy-duty log splitter that features 2-way splitting so you can split heavy logs where they lie on the ground, as well as a grub hook for ripping out roots and stumps. You can also pick logs up crosswise in the heavy-duty splitter and hold them at- the most comfortable height for cutting with a chain saw. Here's how the splitter is used: First you cut down a large tree with your chain saw and trim off the small branches. You then pick up the log crosswise with the bottom splitter on the Johnson machine and cut it up with a chain saw. Next, you split the wood, splitting smaller pieces in the upper splitter and the bigger ones in the bottom. Depending on the type of wood you can split two pieces at once. Last, you lower the grub hook below the bottom wedge and use the 3-pt. mounted splitter to grub out the stump and roots. You can pick everything up with the bottom splitter and haul it away.
