Riding Mower Fitted With Office Chair FARM HOME Lawn Mowers 31h 38 I m not the type to leave anything alone if I think I can make it work better says Wess Cornelius The Winlock Wash man recently sent photos of his 2007 Sears riding mower He replaced the original seat with an ordinary office chair in order to make the ride more comfortable And he raised the steering column 9 in I m 6 ft 3 in and got tired of always having to hunch over while wrestling with the mower s steering wheel which was positioned too low for me says Cornelius The seat sat too low also and didn t have much æcushion to it The seat back wasn t high enough to provide good back support and there was no suspension The office chair has a plush bottom covered by heavy nylon fabric and a high back support It s much more comfortable than the original seat and the extended steering wheel really helps It s so easy to steer now that I can hold the wheel with one hand while holding a coffee cup with my other I can mow all day long in comfort To solve the steering wheel problem he removed a bolt that held the steering wheel to the steering column then slid a length of pipe over the column and rebolted the steering wheel to it He made some brackets and then mounted 4 springs under the seat The 2 front springs are from the seat off an older riding mower and the back springs are coil springs that he bought new at a hardware store Office chairs can be bought cheap at any second hand store notes Cornelius Contact: FARM SHOW Followup Wess Cornelius 1312 Ferrier Rd Winlock Wash 98596 ph 360 785-4178
