Subsoiler TILLAGE EUIPMENT Miscellaneous 13-4-34 Enclosed is a photo of a subsoiler I designed and built together with my partner Hugh Thomson. The first one we built worked so well we sold one to a farmer last fall who ran it on 800 acres with no problems. The shanks work to an average depth of 16 to 22 in. and require 20 to 25 hp. per shank. They shatter hardpan and let moisture penetrate to the roots. The machine is self-leveling from the tractor seat and will be built in 5, 7 and 9-shank models.
