Tine Harrow Adjuster Helps Handle Trash TILLAGE EUIPMENT Accessories 14-3-22 "We made it for our own use. It worked so well we decided to market it," says Doug Steffens, Griswold, Iowa, who, along with Lou Stirek and Bruce Steffens, came up with a new adjustable mounting bracket for flex tine harrows that lets you tip tines toward the rear, keeping them free from trash buildup.
The add-on kit installs without cutting, welding or drilling. It simply replaces the fixed mounting brackets with a bracket that's got 12 different settings. In heavy trash, you set the teeth so they slant to the rear, allowing trash to slip away. For conventional tillage, they can be set straight up and down. The brackets also add about 2 1/2 in. between each set of tines, increasing trash-clearing capacity.
A kit includes all brackets and bolts to fit 6 carrying arms, or three sections. Sells for $398. The first kits were built to fit 3-bar tine harrows behind Case/IH field cultivators and disks because that's what the three farmer-inventors own. However, they're taking orders for other makes and models.
