This Log Splitter Also Crushes Cans WOODLOT EQUIPMENT Wood Splitters 2-6-4 Here's a log splitter with something different - a can crushing attachment that turns 5 gal. cans into flat disks. What's more, the unit's self contained engine and hydraulic power unit can be detached in seconds for use anywhere you need hydraulic power, such as for augers, truck hoists, or whatever. The hydraulic Schweiss Wood Splitter splits wood with 38,000 lbs. of push at 3,000 psi. The 4 in. dia. cylinder comes with 24, 36 or 48 in. stroke and features automatic high speed return after splitting. The unit, available in both tractor or selfpowered models, has no belts or pulleys. Self powered models are operated with a 4 hp. Clinton or Briggs & Stratton gas engine. Direct drive with a 6:1 gear ratio yields 8 to 10 hp. "With our power amplifier, designed {or tough wood, we can split wood that our competitors can't manage using larger 16 to 24 hp. motors," says Harold Schweiss, manufacturer. The optional can crusher is a flat plate that bolts to the splitter just ahead of the splitting wedge. According to Schweiss, it crushes 5 gal. herbicide cans down to 11/z in. thick. The engine and hydraulic unit attach with just 4 bolts for quick, easy removal for use on other jobs, such as operating augers, or for truck or trailer hoists. The hydraulic power unit can also be used with an 8 hp. engine to operate a Hesston or other brand of stack mover. The tractor-powered Wood Splitter sells for $580. The self-powered model, complete with a 4 hp. gasoline engine, lists at $839. The optional can crusher attachment costs $45.
