Power Your Farm With Lighting ENERGY Alternative Fuels 31-6-5 This "shocking" new source of power comes from Dekalb, Illinois inventor Steve Le Roy who has developed a device that intentionally generates lightning in order to harvest the energy discharged. He has built a prototype that generates 3-ft. bolts of lightning (which can be as loud as gunshots), each with enough power to light a 60-watt bulb for 20 min. Le Roy believes a full-size system could generate enough electricity from one lightning bolt to power 30,000 homes for a day. Le Roy says if you've ever seen what lightning can do when it hits a tree, you can imagine the potential of a nature-powered electrical generator.
