"No Mow" Grass MISCELLANEOUS EQUIPMENT Miscellaneous 31-3-5 I was talking to a long-time friend of FARM SHOW recently who told me how happy he is with the "no mow" grass that we first featured several years ago (Vol. 26, No. 5).
"I wouldn't use it right around the house where you want nice thick sod, but it's perfect for outlying areas that you would rather not mow," says Denny Zahrbock, Rice Lake, Wis. "What I really like about it is that it's very drought tolerant. It stays lush and green all summer, growing to a maximum height of 5 to 6 in. tall. The grass is slender and falls over a bit as it gets to its top height. I actually mow it once or twice a summer just to keep it trimmed nicely. It's perfect for planting out away from the house in areas that we look at but don't use that much. I found that the grass gets much thicker the second year and does a tremendous job of suppressing weeds. Weeds just can't compete with it so you use less herbicide."
