Walnut-Cracking Machine FARM HOME Miscellaneous 30-6-42 I crack walnuts for our own use, and to give to friends. I built the machine out of material I had on hand such as angle iron, square tubing and wheels from an old lawn mower. The unit is controlled by a foot pedal on wheels that can be repositioned to adjust the leverage.
One of the advantages of using the device is that you can control how much or how little you crush the shells. In fact, it has so much leverage that my 4-year-old grandson is able to crack walnuts.
It handles different sized walnuts without adjusting, and thanks to the foot pedal the operator has both hands free to feed the machine. After being cracked, the nuts fall down a chute and into a bucket, which is then dumped onto a table where you can pick out the meat.
