Toppers boost capacity of Deere Max Emerge and Kinze Manufacturing planter boxes (which are a virtual carbon copy of the Deere units) from 1.6 bu. capacity to 2.6 bu. Manufacturer Lee Plonske says that increased time demands in the spring particularly when planting soybeans have made the add-ons necessary. "We're also able to outfit Buffalo. Hiniker and any other planter models which have been outfitted with Kinze planter units. We may also develop units for other planters if there is a demand," Plonske told FARM SHOW. Box Toppers are made to match the planters they're fitted to. A yellow fiberglass model fits Deere Max Emerge planters and an off-white model fits the Kinze units. A waterproof lip fits over the top of the existing box. The entire unit attaches quickly with two small screws. The lip can be caulked for an airtight seal. Box toppers sell for $35 per row. Distel also makes a seed flow insert for the bottom of Max Emerge and Kinze row units. The insert, which displaces about 3 lbs. of grain, steepens the flow of grain out the bottom, completely emptying every load of seed. "Usually there is 5 to 10 lbs. of seed left in the bottom of each row unit that doesn't empty. Our insert increases the amount of planting you can do on every trip," says Plonske. The inserts are made from fiberglass and install with four screws. They sell for $15 per row.
