The two-wheeled Skeet-Daddle is powered by a 4-cycle Honda engine. It weighs about 20 lbs. No mixing of chemicals is required. All you ever handle is a can pre-filled with Resmethrin liquid insecticide. The can is held in place by twisting it down onto a threaded collar. A needle protrudes up into the can.
To operate the unit, you start the engine and let it warm up for a minute or two, then rotate a valve that controls an air pump which is used to pressurize the can. The liquid insecticide is delivered through the needle and into a heat exchanger that's built into the muffler. The heat instantly converts the liquid to a fog, which exits through a small tube.
"It puts out as much insecticide as big truck-mounted industrial foggers," says Sneed. "A can of Remethrin will last about 45 minutes if you use the fogger continuously, which is enough to fog 50 to 75 acres.
"It works great for any outdoor activity including ball games or even wedding receptions. The fog disappears in 10 to 15 minutes. It's safer to use than handheld mosquito foggers that use a propane canister because there's no open flame."
A handheld wand (optional) is used to kill fire ants. A flexible plastic hose extends from the can to the export tube on the wand. A 2-ft. long metal probe at the end of the wand is inserted into the fire ant hill, and the fog travels down into the tunnels.
"It's a lot safer and less time consuming than spreading liquid or granular chemicals," notes Sneed.
The Skeet-Daddle sells for $599. Cans of Remethrin sell for $7.50 apiece. The handheld fire ant wand sells for $30.
