Disc Scrapes For Deere Drills Outlast Originals DRILLS Drills (42C) 30-3-29 Robert Barnett's neighbor liked his Deere double disc drills, but didn't like replacing the scraper discs every year. He asked Barnett if he could come up with a better design that would last longer.
"Another neighbor had a Great Plains drill with two-piece scrapers, so I adapted that design to the dimensions of the Deere drill," explains Barnett. "Others wanted a set, too, so I started making them for sale. One guy has now used his for five years without replacing them."
Barnett designed the scraper units to easily install on any Deere double disc drill. Because the scraper blades are spaced 1/16-in. away from the discs, they scrape away soil without rubbing against the steel. Best of all, Barnett was able to produce his scrapers for half the cost of replacement scrapers from Deere.
"A farmer saves $6 on each and every disc set on the drill," says Barnett. "With an average of 56 scrapers per drill, that's a savings of $336 the first year and every year that they last."
