"I always wanted a wood splitter and I needed a welder, too, so I used one engine for both," he says.
He used parts from a #25 Deere 2-cyl. combine from around 1950 including its engine, wheels and frame.
The engine direct-drives a hydraulic pump that powers the splitting cylinder mounted on the left rear corner. He uses it on birch logs up to about 20 in. long.
The engine also belt-drives a surplus aircraft generator that provides power for the welder. The generator mounts on the back right side.
All Lundblad had to buy was the hydraulic cylinder on the splitter. Since it has a Deere engine, Lundblad painted the whole thing green and yellow. "It may be the only Deere wood splitter in the world," he says.
