Thumb pressure wheel bearing packer FARM SHOP Maintenance 13-2-3 A new "thumb pressure" wheel bearing packer from L & L Enterprises, Northwood, N.Dak., lets you grease bearings in one easy step.
The packer, designed to work inside a 1 lb. fiber tub of grease, consists of two cone-shaped parts that "sandwich" the bearing. The bottom, donut-shaped part seals the lower outer rim of the bearing, and the top part seals the inner portion of the bearing. When you apply thumb pressure to the top of the "sandwich", grease is forced through the rollers of the bearing, packing it uniformly.
"Most other bearing packers require use of a grease gun to squirt grease through the packer and bearing. They also have to be cleaned out after use," says Larry Feickert,
inventor. "Our bearing packer doesn't re-quire use of a grease gun, and you don't need to clean anything. Grease comes up through the smallest part of the bearing to the largest part, so it'll grease bearings equipped with a seal on one side. It's also less expensive than most other bearing packers."
