He Used Scrap Metal To Build 3-Pt. Hitches TRACTORS Hitches 28-6-42 I used scrap metal to build my own 3-pt. hitches, one for a Farmall C tractor and the other for a Farmall M. I used 1 by 2 by 34-in. long steel bars to build the lower lift arms. I welded two 1/2 by 3-in. steel bars to the tractor's original drawbar mounts to serve as pivot points for the lift arms. A 1 by 2-in. bar welded across the top provides a mounting point for a hydraulic cylinder.
The lift cylinders are 3-in. in diameter. The lift arms on the C are only 26 in. long. The axle mount is made from a pair of 2 by 2 1/4-in., 20-in. long angle irons.
I used the extra control valve off an SC to operate the top 2-in. cylinder instead of using a solid top link. I spliced into the pressure side pump outlet through a remote selector valve to operate the 3-pt. (Ernest Berentsen, 4708 Colgate Dr., Lubbock, Texas 79416)
