First-Of-Its-Kind Combine Yield Monitor COMBINES Accessories 8-5-25 A new farmer-built yield monitor that mounts in the combine grain tank and measures yields on the go is now on the market in Great Britain. Developed by Jeff Claydon and manufactured by Shelbourne Reynolds Engineering, Suffolk, England, the new "Yieldometer" lets you measure the yields of any size field while you're harvesting without unloading into wagons or through yield meters that mount on the unloading auger. The Yieldometer paddle wheel volume measurer mounts in the grain tank below a special-built grain flow channel that ensures a steady flow of grain. On most combines, the cross auger must be reworked so that it fills the Yieldometer as grain comes into the combine. The measuring paddle wheel is power-driven, preventing blockages as it measures grain. A sensor mounted on the wheels of the combine measures area traveled, which is displayed continuously, along with the bushels measured, on a monitor in the cab. A sensor on the header turns the area sensor off when the header is lifted. Keith Shelbourne of Shelbourne Reynolds Engineering says the new Yieldometer, which Claydon has been using on his East Anglican grain farm since 1980, will fit any combine with some modification to the tank and cross auger.
