Giant-Horned Steer Gets Bigger AG WORLD 25-6-21 Lurch, the record-setting Watusi steer with giant horns, just keeps growing and growing. We told you about Lurch a couple years ago (Vol. 23, No. 5). Lurch's giant horns now measure 37 in. in dia. at the base and 75 1/2 in. from tip to tip. The horns are much bigger than his head so it doesn't seem possible that they could get any larger, but they do.
Watusi steers are known for having big horns but Lurch is a phenomenon. Normally, the horns stop growing but Lurch's horns just keep getting bigger and bigger.
Despite his imposing appearance, Lurch's owner Janice Wolf of Gassville, Ark., says the big steer is extremely docile. He's been broken to saddle almost since birth and gives rides to children and adults alike.
Lurch is only about 6 years old so Janice expects his horns to keep growing. She recently heard from Ripley's Believe It Or Not so one of these days he may get recognized for his world record setting size.
