Lobed Disc Blades Take Less Power To Pull DISKS Disks (58D) 25-3-26 Lobed disc blades from a French Company break up soil and crop residues better than standard disc blades at similar working depths, but with 20 percent less weight, according to the company.
They say lobed disc blades work better at higher speeds, in wetter soils, and require nearly 20 to 30 percent less power.
The company makes five-lobe and six-lobe discs. The fewer the lobes, the faster the blades turn in the soil, says Jean Javerlhac, a farmer and consulting engineer who developed and patented the lobed blades.
The French manufacturer owns North American Tillage Tools, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Company President Alain Grenier says the lobed blades will eventually be produced there.
