Extend Your Reach With "X-tender" BUILDINGS Houses 25-1-37 When standing on your tiptoes just isn't enough, you might want to try the new "X-tender" by C. Dean Peterson, a research and design engineer from Johnston, Iowa.
"I was painting a house with an overhang I couldn't reach," recalls Peterson. "I needed a tool with a wrist-type action that would work on vertical and horizontal surfaces."
His solution was to design, build and patent a tool to extend reach from 30 to 36 in., depending on individual wrist and arm strength. The tool is designed to be used with both hands. He now manufactures and sells it for $24.95.
The X-tender consists of two 1/2-in. rods that form the arm of the tool and a handle at the lower end. A tool mounting plate can be adjusted to hold a tool at any angle. Wing nuts on U-bolts allow tools to be inserted or removed quickly. Angle adjustment is accomplished by loosening or tightening the bolts.
Over the past year, Peterson has sold more than 6,000 X-tenders thanks to a seven minute video clip of his product that has been shown on the QVC shopping channel.
