Kelly unveiled the new drill at last month's California Farm Equipment Show in Tulare and is setting up on-farm demonstrations to show farmers and ranchers how the Multi-Seeder can seed directly behind the combine in heavy trash without any prior tillage or seedbed preparation.
"University of Kentucky researchers will be testing the new drill this spring. A network of distributors and dealers is also being set up through-out the entire U.S. and Canada," Kelly told FARM SHOW.
A key design feature of the no-till drill is its "triple disk dragbar". The leading disk cuts a slot which is opened by a pair of disks following behind. Seed and fertilizer are individually dropped between the rear disks into the slot. The front disk is usually adjusted to operate deeper than the rear disks.
"Equipped with fluted coulters, the drill will seed directly into the residue of 150 bu. corn, or a 60 bu. crop of wheat," says Kelly. "Although designed for direct drilling in heavy trash, it can also be adapted to work on a cultivated seedbed. It will handle a wide variety of crops, including seeding soybeans in 6.1 in. rows, small grains, alfalfa, mustard, rape, pasture mixes, and certain vegetables crops."
Three models being offered (all with standard 6.1 in. rows spacing) include a 15 row ($14,000), a 19 row ($16,500), and a 23 row model ($18,000).
