Why Buy Costly Cooking Oil? FARM HOME Food 4-1-29 Instead of throwing away costly cooking oil, why not recycle it through Short N' Saver, a low-cost filter that removes all odors and contamination?
If you fry 2 lbs. of bacon per week, you shouldn't have to buy another drop of cooking oil. By running it through the Short N' Saver filter, bacon fat can be restored and recycled, eliminating the need to buy cooking oil.
"You can use the same oil over and over again for frying onions, fish, potatoes, shrimp, etc. with no transfer of flavors and odors," explains James Metzger, the inventor and manufacturer. "The filter fits containers of varying size. However, we recommend using a 2 lb. coffee can, or a 3 lb. shortening can. After frying, let the oil cool to less than 300 ? F. to prevent a boiling effect in the filter. Two cups will filter in about 5 minutes." Filtering is done with a built-in product called Margite.
Short N' Saver sells for $7.50, including postage and handling. The initial investment will recycle 10 to 15 gal. of oil, says Metzger.
