German Tractor's Front Axle Telescopes To Handle Heavy Loads TRACTORS New Tractors 24-2-30 The front axle on this new articulated, 4-WD loader tractor telescopes out from 42 in. to a width of 6 ft. 2 in., making the rig more stable on hillsides and allowing it to safely lift 1 1/2-ton loads up to 11 1/2 ft. high. It can even lift 4,000 lbs (approximately its own weight) off the ground. Built in Germany, the Kruger Telescoping Loader was exhibited at the recent California Farm Equipment Show near Tulare. The rig's front axle is equipped with a pair of big hydraulic cylinders. The driver simply pushes a button. The axles should be telescoped on-the-go to avoid excessive tire wear; however, you can push the axle to its full spread standing still even under full load. "The Kruger is small enough that it can go through most barn doors and maneuver in tight places, yet it has much greater lifting capacity than conventional skid steer loaders," says Karl-Heinz Zeller, Oroville, Wash. "Several models are available ranging from 38 to 47 hp. The loader can be equipped with a bucket or grapple fork and can be used to load everything from round bales to pallets, etc. The grapple fork mounts on a swivel-type work head. With quick disconnect hydraulics it takes only about two minutes to change the work head. A small backhoe weighing only about 700 lbs. can be mounted on back. The backhoe is supported by a pair of steel legs and folds up to less than the width of the machine." The 38 hp model sells for about $35,000.
