No Power Needed for Disk Ditcher TILLAGE EUIPMENT Disks (18) 14-3-26 "It digs ditches three times as fast and does just as good a job as our powered digger," says Paul Klingler, farmer-inventor of the new "Disk Ditcher" that uses two angled concave discs to dig surface drainage ditches.
Klingler has used the ditcher on his own farm since 1985 and recently started manufacturing units for sale. "You can travel as fast as your tractor can pull it. We often go as fast as 12 mph. It'll work at speeds down to 5 mph."
The 3-pt. mounted ditcher is fitted with 21 1/2-in. discs mounted on 1 by 8-in. frame. The 3-pt. frame is made out of 2 by 2-in. tubing.
The ditcher works best in tilled fields, where it'll dig a ditch 2 to 3 in. deeper than the soil is tilled. With the addition of weights, Klingler says it'll also do a good job on no-till or minimum-till ground. It throws soil evenly to both sides.
