Portable Canvas Feed Trough LIVESTOCK Miscellaneous 13-1-21 "It lets you easily feed grain in the field with little or no waste and move to new locations with little effort," says Dan Smith, inventor and manufacturer of a new "roll out" port-able canvas feed trough that sets up any-where in minutes. Made of heavy-duty 15 mil plastic, the 1-ft. wide troughs range in length from 20 to 160 ft. They're held in place by U-shaped support brackets that are connected to tensioned wires running down each side of the trough. The sides are held several inches off the ground. Setting up the feed trough is simply a matter of rolling it out on the ground, pushing several hold-down stakes into the ground, and tightening the wire tensioners at one end of the trough. The tear-resistant plastic is UV treated and resistant to most acids, alkalis and solvents. It cannot rot or mildew and has drain holes along the bottom. All brackets and stakes are galvanized. "It's quick and easy to setup and virtually eliminates waste of grain that occurs when grain is fed to cattle or sheep on the ground. And it requires much less effort to move than heavy wood or concrete troughs," says Smith, noting that he also makes canvas troughs for water of the same design but equipped with float valves and without drain holes in the bottom.
