Foot Pedal Closes Toilet Seat Automatically FARM HOME Bathroom 22-6-41 "It couldn't be easier to use," says Tom Sharp, Losantville, Ind., about his automatic opening device for toilets that raises the seat when-ever you step on a foot pedal and lowers it as soon as you let go.
The device consists of a 9-in. long metal pedal that bolts to the floor and is connected to a threaded steel rod that's attached to a bolt at the bottom of the seat. The toilet's top lid is always kept in the upright position.
"It's a simple, inexpensive way to solve an old problem," says Sharp. "We've used it in our bathrooms for three years with no problems. Women like it because the toilet seat is always left down and it's sanitary and looks good. Men like it because they don't have to bend over and don't have to touch the seat with their hands. The pedal can be mounted on either side of the toilet and is easy to in-stall. The rod has a turnbuckle mounted on it which can be used to adjust the height of the pedal depending on the type of floor."
