After a lot of trial and error, the Hay Roll was born," says Gary Price, Blooming Grove, Texas.
"It's a lightweight, simple piece of equipment that attaches to a bale in a couple minutes and can be pulled by a pickup, tractor, ATV or even a horse.
"Unrolling round bales instead of feeding in bale feeder rings, you can ælimit feed' your cattle instead of placing them on full feed. The benefits can be tremendous, saving up to 25 percent of the feed. Unrolling eliminates sloppy, muddy conditions that result around bale feeders. You also eliminate injuries to baby calves that can occur when cows crowd around feeding equipment. Even timid and weak cattle are able to eat when bales are unrolled.
"The Hay Roll consists of a rod that pushes through the center of the bale. A U-shaped frame attaches to either end of the rod. And a chain is used to pull it. There are no bearings or other moving parts. It should last for many years."
