Bazilli notes that a too-high moisture content can cause dry rot as well as spontaneous combustion in bales. Farmers can use the tester to test hay before storage as well as to determine moisture content of hay or straw that they're buying or selling.
To test the moisture content of any size bale, you push the 20 in. long, ¢ dia. probe into the bale. By pressing a button on the handle, the bale's moisture content reads out on the gauge. The sensor is at the end of the probe and measures moisture contents of up to 80%.
