Big bale ammonia chamber CROPS Straw 10-4-22 Straw becomes a nutritious, palatable cattle feed when treated in this new totally controlled bale treatment chamber.
Straw is saturated with anhydrous ammonia inside the chamber to break down it's structure and increase digestible protein from about 1% to 7¢%, according to the manufacturer, Baffle from Gerona, Spain.
The chamber is 6 by 6 ft. and 7¢ ft. deep, but can be built to any size. It's easy to load with either round or square bales and is fitted with electronic controls that constantly monitor the amount of ammonia injected and the state of the straw as it's treated. Many European farmers now treat straw by simply injecting ammonia into sealed plastic bags. The company says their new chamber cuts the cost of treating 1 ton of straw from $20 to $12 by controlling treatment inside the chamber and eliminating waste. The treatment, they say, triples the value of the straw.
The new bale chamber sells for about $17,000.
