He Restores Farmall Tractor seats TRACTORS Miscellaneous 16-6-27 Two years ago Darrell Darst went looking for a new (or rebuilt) padded seat for his Super C Farmall. After checking all over the U.S., he found out there were none available. That's when he decided to redo the worn-out seat himself. "After locating the best original I could fmd to use for a pattern, and after spending a lot of money and time, I came up with a cover that suited me. Next, I had to fmd something to use for a cushion under the pad. I wanted something as close to the original as possible. Horsehair was used on the original but you can't fmd that anymore. Another problem was "painting" the seat after it's covered. I finally found solutions that worked," says Darst, who's now doing a booming business restoring Farman seats that farmers send to him by mail. The seats he works on were used for the M through the 560 over a period of about 20 years. Cub A, B, C, H, etc., also used the seat. "IH stopped selling original replacements in the middle 70's. I've been in business for a little over a year and have already completed over 130. I do all the work myself and they're all done by hand," says Darst. Send in your original seat pan by UPS. Rust or pits on the seat do not matter but it has to have a good seat lip without holes. If you don't have a suitable seat pan, Darst will sell you one. Upon receipt, he sandblasts your seat, installs the new pad, paints, and mails it back. Takes 4 to 6 weeks. Costs $65 plus $10 postage and handling.
