Road Ready Roller Fitted With Truck Tread

Road ready roller fitted with truck tread ROCK PICKERS Rock Pickers 14-6-22 The trouble with big steel field rollers is that they're not practical to take on roads. A Virginia farmer-inventor says his patented new "road-ready" roller, fitted with rubber truck tread, solves the problem.
"You can tow it down the road at speeds greater than 20 mph, significantly reducing the time required to move rollers from field to field," says Ruben Atwood, who farms near Rileyville.
Atwood uses the roller on hay fields and on fresh-tilled ground. "Hay fields that previously were limited to cutting speeds of not more than 2 mph because of rocks and other obstructions can now be cut at speeds of 4 mph, or as fast as the machine is capable of operating. It also prepares cloddy or rocky soil for planting, and levels and compresses fields for better germination after planting."
The roller is made from an 11-ft. long pipe, 36 in. in dia. with 1/2 in. thick sidewalls. It's fitted with treads from 17 used truck tires. The roller can easily be adjusted to weigh between 1 1/2 to 7 tons, depending on how much concrete ballast is poured inside the pipe.
