PTO-Powered Rock Crusher SUBSOILERS Subsoilers (58n) 10-4-22 "Why haul them away when you can crush them to release their nutrients into the soil," asks Eduardo Fachal, representative of Tiburon, manufacturer of a new in-field rock crusher that turns rocks up to 1¢-ft. in dia. into powder and tiny chunks on the go.
The pto-powered 56-in. wide crusher uses heavy-duty, hard surfaced metal hammers that swing freely on a rotating shaft to pulverize any kind of rock. The hammers beat the rock against a comb-like metal grate that also helps break them up. Height of the crusher can be adjusted to dig rocks out from just under the soil surface.
The crusher requires a minimum 100 hp. tractor with 540 rpm. It moves through the field at about 1¢ mph. The rock crushing hammers must be replaced every 1,000 acres in soft rock and every 250 acres in hard, granite rock. The machine sells for about $9,033.
