Disposable coveralls for chemical protection FARM HOME Clothes 10-5-4 For less than $4 you can protect yourself and your clothing from chemicals, paint, blood and other staining or dangerous materials with disposable coveralls from Gempler's, of Monroe, Wis.
The white, tear-resistant, zip-up coveralls weigh 5-oz. and are made of Tyvek, a non-woven, synthetic material manufactured by DuPont. "The material offers a high-level barrier against even the finest spray particles," says Steve Schlecht, president of Gempler's. "The coveralls also offer low-cost protection when doing veterinarian and AI work, handling grain, applying fertilizer, painting and other jobs. They can also be used as rain gear."
Gempler's also offers yellow polylaminated coveralls. These weigh 9 oz. and are also made of Tyvek, but have an extra layer of polyethelene for added protection against chemical splashes. They also have a drawstring hood and elastic sleeves and legs.
Both styles are tear-resistant and machine-washable. However, if they become contaminated with chemicals they should be thrown away, notes Schlecht.
The cheaper white coveralls are available in 5 different sizes and sell for $3.95 each. A case of 24 sells for $83.76 ($3.49 each). The yellow polylaminated coveralls sell for $12.49 each.
